About John Schwappach, M.D.
Dr. Schwappach was born and raised in Denver, CO. He attended the Colorado School of Mines and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering Chemistry. In 1989, Dr. Schwappach graduated with Honors from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic residency program at the University of Kansas. Dr. Schwappach then pursued a fellowship in Orthopedic Traumatology at the University of Washington, Haborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
Dr. Schwappach is a board-certified fellow with the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is published extensively in the orthopedic literature including articles based on his original research. Along with orthopedic trauma and fracture care, Dr. Schwappach also specializes in joint replacement surgery, post-traumatic reconstruction, pelvic/acetabular surgery, sports medicine injuries and clinical research.
About Stephen Thon, M.D.
Dr. Thon joined Denver Metro Orthopedics after finishing a sports medicine fellowship through CU - Anschutz. He specializes in minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, elbow, and hip. He is especially interested in complex reconstructions of the shoulder ranging from rotator cuff repairs, labral repairs, and shoulder replacements. He also received advanced training in knee ligament reconstructions including advanced ACL tear treatments.
He is a Denver native returning to practice in his home state to be close to his family and serve the community that he grew up in. When not practicing orthopedics, Dr. Thon can be found enjoying the outdoors with his wife, Keleigh, and their two dogs, Blue and Hefe. They love participating in every season Colorado has to offer from taking the dogs hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. He is an ardent fan of all Colorado sports including the Broncos, Avalanche, Nuggets, and Rockies and an adopted fan of the New Orleans Saints.
Dr. Schwappach, through Global Health Initiatives, has shared his orthopedic skills with surgeons in Rwanda and Peru. On mission trips Dr. Schwappach has completed countless surgeries on local patients enhancing their quality of life. To take a look into this experience please view the video above.
